Check out these daily video news summaries from the 76th General Convention of the Episcopal Church. I would have put them all together on a page of the Diocese of Maine's wordpress blog, Mainers in Anaheim or on our diocesan website, but blogger was the only place I could make the embed code work, so here it is. (TMI I know, but, well, that's why the separate blog - though God certainly knows the Episco-world doesn't need another blog.)
My Mom, Audrey Stukey
Mostly I've posted them here - as well as several other interviews from Anaheim and a few of my favorite GC sermons - so I can show my mom, Audrey, who's 85 and can't quite navigate the Media Hub. But, if this is helpful for you as a one-stop nutshell of the GC experience, I am most pleased.
For detailed news about convention visit Episcopal Life Online or Episcopal Cafe. And my friend Karin Hamilton with the Diocese of Connecticut has an excellent legislation tracker over here.

Jim Dela's Convention Wrap-Up
My friend Jim Dela from the Diocese of Southwest Florida offers this wrapped-up gift. Now I know why you were taking pictures of the escalators on the last day.

Day 5 - Sunday, July 12, 2009
I believe the Lord condones resting on Day 5 of General Convention if it happens to be a Sunday. Squeezed about 75 minutes of pool time before HOD went in session to consider D025.
Here's Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori's excellent sermon from the Convention Eucharist.

Bishop Steven Charleston saves the world in ten minutes flat
The man wears the mantle of bishop in a remarkable way. If you want to read what he said to Episcopal Communicators in 2001 about why our job of telling "what happened here" is so important, click here. I reread it about once a year to remember why I get out of bed to do what I do everyday.
Bishop Barbara Harris rocks the Integrity Eucharist
This is a fearless woman. I mean, dang!

Diocese of Maine Chancellor Joe Delafield explains the new clergy disciplinary canons
Joe was the lead author of the new Title IV, the Canons that change the way we deal with clergy accused of misconduct. He also explains the remarkable experience the Canons Committee had in coming to unanimous vote to recommend the resolution. Go Joe! Way to serve the Church! We're proud of you. (Forgive the weird lip synch...not sure what happened.)
Interview with the Rev. Tom Brackett on Innovative Ministry
Please, please forgive my dorky smile and bra strap. It was the first day. But what a delight to finally meet Tom, who was raised up for ordained ministry by St. Giles', Jefferson, Maine - about ten miles from my house.

Here's another video I took at that (noisy) gathering of some church planters and ministry innovators from around the church.

Interview with the Rev. Richard Aguilar on the Strategic Vision for Hispanic/Latino Ministry
The original, comprehensive proposal was for $3.5 million. The final budget included $300,000 to do a pilot program.

About Me
- Heidi Shott
- A farm girl from upstate New York goes to college in New England and stumbles into a funny West Virginian and the Episcopal Church, and after a teaching stint in Micronesia discovers that it's possible to make a living by writing and that having twin sons is both delightful and heartbreaking and that living on a lake on the coast of Maine is a pretty darn good gig.
